2026 – The Journey Continues – God has a Plan and Purpose for Our Lives – Part XVIII

On Thursday, my oncologist agreed to stop Keytruda and prescribed steroids to address parkinsonian-like symptoms. Today, after eating a bowl of instant flavored oatmeal, I took ten steroid pills to equal 40 mg for the first of four doses in hopes of reversing the symptoms of Parkinson’s, including mask-type facial expressions, unsteady gait, and hunched over back, can’t stand up straight. The steroids raised my blood glucose levels to over 350, and through diet, I significantly lowered my levels as a Type 2 diabetic.

My oncologist said that the reversal of symptoms and should show after a couple of doses. We’ll see and my back seemed to be straightening out. While I am putting the chemo on hold for one cycle/three weeks, I am looking to get back to the action after I can mitigate these neurological challenges.

In a previous reflection, I mentioned that Emory couldn’t see me until 4/26. A good friend shared my plight, and arranged a referral to an MCG neurologist, who could see me next Friday, 2/13. He read in the blog about my frustration in seeing a neuro physician and responding by email. That afternoon, we heard from a neurologist who conducted a phone screen and concluded that I needed to see a movement neurologist due to parkinsonian systems.

I want to recognize my wife Stephanie who remained steadfast in her actions to support me. Remember I am temporarily mute and relegated to texting and writing on paper my intentions and instructions for phone calls and how to respond to medical issues. She’s evolved into an effective advocate, despite my impatience, and served me well!

I resigned myself through God’s grace will see me through these maladies with better health. My army of praying faithful adds to my exuberance toward healing, and among the faithful, my good friend read my blog and propelled him to action to get a sooner appointment with a neurologist!

“I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13)

Have a Blessed Week!
