2026 – The Journey Continues – God has a Plan and Purpose for Our Lives – Part XV
On Thursday, my oncologist shared with me the results of a recent CT scan, which revealed a shrinkage of a lot of the tumors, which was a good sign after only two chemo treatments. In fact, the shrinkage caused the stent which was placed in my esophagus to permit swallowing to drop to my stomach. I could swallow again without the stent. The stent can be retrieved from my stomach later.
My voice hadn’t improved; the CT scan showed no obstruction on my vocal cords. My oncologist had a discussion with my ENT, and I was referred to my ENT for further analysis, with the neurological implications back on the table for review. That appointment is January 26th. My third chemo and immunotherapy are scheduled for Monday, January 19. The plan is to infuse a total of six doses of Oxaliplatin and immunotherapy thereafter. The cost of the agent for immunotherapy, Keytruda, is $2460 per dose after insurance, which will be a challenge and thank God we have the savings to cover the costs.
If I survive the cancer, the voice will impact quality of life. I’ve gotten used to Stephanie speaking on my behalf, whether it’s about the car, the house, or any medical appointments and questions I have. I shopped for a couple pairs of jeans yesterday, and I made a text for the salesperson for the preferred size and style of jeans I was looking for. I touch my throat to signal I can’t talk, and the individual is usually more than happy to assist!
I saw a short clip from The Chosen where Jesus healed a man who could not talk intelligibly – that is my ailment! Pray that my voice is restored so I may vocally preach the gospel and have once again, social interactions with friends and family. My writing has become the sole source for communicating and sharing the good news of the gospel, in that Jesus came into the world to give His life to save from our sins and to make possible life everlasting in heaven!
Your Prayers are Coveted!
Joe
